Arizona is a tough place to be if your job is to cool a home or business. While the temperature out side can reach into the 120 degree range, it can be much hotter inside your air conditioner. The most common HVAC failures are due to the extreme climate we have here in Phoenix and the surrounding cities. Proper care and maintenance is always a best practice to avoid mid summer breakdowns, but there is no sure way to protect that air conditioner from our blazing hot temperatures.
Things to check before you call.
Sometimes your air conditioning repair could be as simple as flipping a switch, or changing a filter. Always check your breaker box for weak or tripped breaker switches that control your package air conditioner, air handler, or condensing unit. If there is no power making it to one component of your air conditioning system, the AC will be unable to deliver cool air to you! Also, check that the filter, usually located in a hallway return vent or underneath the air handler, is clean. A dirty filter will cause a bottleneck in the line that returns air to your air conditioner. This will cause the freon, or refrigerant lines, to freeze up since the HVAC unit can not transfer the heat and cold properly through out the indoor and outdoor coils. Lastly, check to make sure your thermostat is set to cool with the temperature dial set at a temperature lower than the indoor temperature of your home or business. The fan toggle switch can be set to either auto, or on. The difference is auto will only turn the indoor blower motor on when the air conditioner is running, versus the on position that runs the indoor fan at all times.
